Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description
A white disc edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) scarlet border, the overall diameter 3 1/4 inches (8.26 cm), centered on the disc is the head of a cougar couped at the neck, blue and white with scarlet eye and tongue between the inscription "COLUMBUS STATE" at the top and "UNIVERSITY" in base in scarlet letters 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in height.

Symbolism
Red, white and blue are the official colors of the university. The cougar is the mascot.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 3 January 1973.  It was amended to change Columbus College to  Columbus State University, to add subdued colors conversion and provide a manufacturing drawing, metric measurements, and update the description and symbolism on 15 August 1996.  (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-135)

Description
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: per saltire Azure and Argent on the first a mullet of five points above in base an arch from the State seal of the second, in dexter fess a wreath and in sinister fess a crown of the first; on a chief argent a seal-lamp enflamed Azure. Attached below the shield a silver scroll inscribed "PRIMUS INTER PARES" all in blue letters.

Symbolism
Blue and white (silver) are the institution's colors. The seal-lamp symbolizes knowledge; the crown, nobility; the star, patriotism; the wreath, peace; and an arch taken from the state seal. The motto "Primus Inter Pares" translated means "First Among Equals".

The shoulder loop insignia was originally authorized 3 January 1973.  It was amended to change the name of the school to Columbus State University vice Columbus College, and update the description and symbolism on 15 August 1996.
