Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description
A rectangular shield-shaped device with arced chevron top, 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width overall, consisting of a purple background on which is a white San Jacinto Monument, stars and rays white, all within a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) white border.

Symbolism
The monument represents the San Jacinto Monument, a Houston landmark.  The star and rays allude to academic excellence.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was authorized 14 November 1991.  (TIOH Drawing Number A-10J-1074)

Description
A silver color metal and enamel insignia 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of a blue enamel shield on which is a silver representation of the San Jacinto Monument below a five-pointed star emitting six rays, three downward to dexter and three downward to sinister, all silver.  Attached below the shield a blue enamel three segmented scroll inscribed HONOR AND COURAGE in silver letters.   

Background
The shoulder loop insignia was approved on 25 March 1976.
