Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description
A shield shaped item with a arced scroll attached above the shield, the overall dimensions are device 3 1/4 inches (8.26 cm) in height and 2 1/4 inches (5.72 cm) in width, the shield base white edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) blue border on which is a blue horizontal band, overall a white tiger springing forward in perspective detailed blue; on a white arced scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) blue border, the inscription JACKSON STATE in blue letters 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in height.

Symbolism
Blue and white (silver) are the colors of Jackson State University.  The tiger is representative of the mascot of the University and reflects the spirit and determination of the cadets in academic, physical and military endeavors.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was authorized 23 April 1974 currently amended to update the manufacturing drawing on 4 March 2014.  (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-218




Shoulder Loop Insignia


Description
A silver color metal enamel device 1 inches (2.54 cm) in width overall consisting of a silver color metal tiger springing from a blue enamel oval base encompassed by a silver color metal oval scroll inscribed JACKSON STATE in blue enamel letters.      

Symbolism
Blue and white (silver) are the colors of the Jackson State University.  The Tiger is the mascot of the University and reflects the spirit and determination of the cadets in academic, physical and military endeavors.

Background
The shoulder loop insignia was authorized 26 Mar 1970.
