Shoulder Sleeve Insignia
A shieldshaped item with an arced scroll attached above and a scroll conforming to the configuration of the shield in base attached below, 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height and 3 3/8 inches in width overall, consisting of a shield divided per chevron white at the top and gray in base, the peak of the chevron shaped base surmounting a golden orange sun emitting nine golden orange rays throughout, all within a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) scarlet border, the shield between two white scrolls each edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) scarlet border, the scroll above the shied inscribed WESTERN and the scroll below inscribed KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY in scarlet 5/16 (.79 cm) in height.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was authorized 8 June 1973, currently amended to update the manufacturing drawing on 21 March 2014. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-220)
Shoulder Loop Insignia
A silver color metal and enamel circular device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in diameter overall consisting of an inner red enamel disc on which is a silver color metal building in perspective before five silver color metal rays, overall in base an arced silver color metal wreath. Around the disc a red enamel band inscribed WESTERN KENTUCKY at the top and UNIVERSITY in base in silver color metal letters.
The shoulder loop insignia was authorized 26 November 1971.
