Shoulder Sleeve Insignia
On a light blue vertical rectangle arched convexly at top and bottom and edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) blue border a brown twin peaked stylized mountain issuing from base surmounted by a rifle in bend and a sheathed sabre in bend sinister saltirewise and overall a torch enflamed all yellow. Attached above the rectangle a light blue scroll edged with a narrow blue border and inscribed EL PASO in blue letters. Attached below the rectangle a light blue scroll edged with a narrow blue border and inscribed ISD in blue letters. The overall dimensions are 3 1/4 inches (8.26 cm) in height by 2 1/8 inches (5.40 cm) in width.
The saber and musket symbolize the El Paso Cadet Guard formed at El Paso High School in 1888. The dancette symbolizes the mountain pass used by settlers traveling from Mexico. The torch represents the academic atmosphere and intellectual challenges provided to the cadets.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved on 25 November 1996.
Shoulder Loop Insignia
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of a blue enamel shield on which are a rifle and sabre in saltire, surmounted in the vertical center by a stylized torch enflamed, all gold; on a light blue enamel chief between two stylized brown enamel mountain ranges a star emitting nine rays all gold. Attached below the shield a gold arced scroll inscribed GUARDAMOS EL PASO in blue enamel letters
The shoulder loop insignia was approved on 30 June 1975.
