Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description
On a maroon disc 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in diameter overall, edged with a narrow yellow border, three (3) maroon torches with yellow outlines and details interwoven with a maroon scroll outlined and inscribed VIRES, ARTRES, MORES, in yellow encircled by a maroon designation band edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border with the inscription FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY at top and 1857 at bottom all in yellow letters.

Symbolism
Garnet and gold are the university colors.           

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally 2 July 1957. It was amended to add metric measurements and subdued colors on 15 April 1993, currently amended to include an updated manufactured drawing on 29 April 2014. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-108)

Description
 gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (3.18 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Or, an Indians head in profile to dexter, couped at shoulders of the first, garnished Gules; within a bordure of the last. Attached below the shield a Red scroll inscribed SEMINOLES in Gold letters.

Symbolism
Garnet and gold are the university colors.

Background
The shoulder loop insignia was authorized 20 January 1955.
