Shoulder Loop Insignia

Description
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall, consisting of a shield divided horizontally green above bearing a white flower within a wreath tied with a ribbon all gold; and gold below bearing an open book with green cover and gold pages.  Attached above the shield a stylized gold demi-sun surmounted by a green slip of saxifrage between two black rocks, and issuing therefrom a white demi-falcon hooded gold.  Attached below the shield a green scroll with gold ends inscribed PERSEVERANTIA in gold letters

Symbolism
The school colors are green and yellow (gold).  The schools mascot is a falcon.  The saxifrage breaking through the rocks symbolizes the strength and determination of both the academic and military program.  The wreath denotes excellence and achievement while the open book alludes to knowledge.

Background
The shoulder loop insignia was authorized 3 April 1997.
