Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description
On a disc edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) blue border, overall 3 inches (7.62 cm) in diameter, the background divided horizontally into halves, blue above and old gold below issuing from dexter the head of an eagle in Profile, white detailed gray.

Symbolism
Blue, white and old gold are the colors of the university.  The eagle is the universitys mascot.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 4 May 1983.  It was amended to include an updated manufactured drawing and to retroactively change the school name and update the description and symbolism of the design on 21 May 2014. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-225)

Description
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a blue enamel shield on which is an orange enamel torch enflamed, emitting an arc of six silver rays to the top of the shield, overall a silver and brown enamel eagle poised with wings elevated, grasping a silver sheathed sword with blade to base.  Attached below the shield, an arced silver scroll inscribed GEORGIA SOUTHERN in black enamels letters. 

Symbolism
Royal blue, white (silver) and orange are the colors of the university.  The torch enflamed is indicative of learning.  The six rays represent the six schools comprising the university and further commemorate the role of the university in lighting the way to the future through education.   The sheathed sword alludes to the military and the eagle is the universitys mascot.
