Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description
A rectangular insignia arched top and bottom measuring 3 inches (7.62 cm) high and 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) wide within a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) black border, issuing from bottom a red mountain of two peaks, arched across the top the designation FROSTBURG in red and STATE across the bottom in black on the upper left side an ice crystal of eight points white fimbriated in black.

Symbolism
Red and black are the school colors.  Red is for valor and honor.  Black represents strength and conviction.  The mountain and ice crystal reflect the universitys locale.

The shoulder sleeve insignia was authorized 4 March 1996.  (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-132)

Description
A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Sable, in chief a bobcat statant guardant and traversed, oppressed to base by a mount and oppressed in base by a book open Gules, surmounted by a candlestick Argent. Attached below the shield a Silver triparted scroll inscribed FROSTBURG STATE UNIVERSITY in Black letters.           

Symbolism
Red and black are the school colors. The bobcat behind the mountains denotes the school mascot and reflects the location of the school.  The candle and open book symbolize the academic curriculum of the cadets.

The shoulder loop insignia was authorized 4 March 1996.
