A white rectangular shield-shape device edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) white border, the overall dimension are 3 3/4 inches (9.53 cm) in height and 2 3/4 inches (6.99 cm) in width consisting of the complete achievement of the University, shield, crest, motto, scroll and supporters in proper colors within a 1/16 inch (.16 cm) yellow border; above the yellow border, the inscription HOFSTRA and below the yellow border the inscription UNIVERSITY all letters blue, 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in height with a blue dot before and after each inscription.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 6 September 1951. It was cancelled due to a new design on 19 August 1980, there after it was amended to add subdued colors and metric dimensions and update the description and symbolism of the design on 17 June 1992.
