Shoulder Sleeve Insignia
On a black shield with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border, two yellow crossed swords points down, surmounted by a yellow torch. Attached above the shield, a black scroll with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border inscribed JOLIET in yellow letters 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in height. Overall dimensions are 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 3 inches (7.62 cm) in width.
Black and yellow are the school colors. The torch denotes an academic environment. The swords suggest military training.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 18 March 1992 currently amended to include an updated manufactured drawing on 18 June 2014. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10JS-252)
Shoulder Loop Insignia
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height consisting of an arched black shield on which is a gold canoe detailed black bendwise sinister with gold reflection, debruising a light blue chief charged with three fleurs-de-lis arcing fesswise. Attached below the shield, a light blue wampum belt detailed and fringed gold forming a scroll and inscribed JOLIET in gold letters.
Gold and blue, and black reflect the colors of the High School in the township. The canoe represents the principle mode of travel used by the French explorer Joliet and alludes to the townships namesake. The three fleurs-de-lis on a blue field suggest the arms of France. The wampum belt was an important ceremonial item used by Native Americans and symbolizes the history of the area
