On a maroon disc with a 1/16 inch (.16 cm) silver gray border placed 1/8 inch (.32 cm) from the edge, 2 7/8 inches (7.30 cm) in diameter overall, a block letter J 9/16 inch (1.43 cm) in height, above an eagle rising with wings elevated and displayed, both in silver gray.
Maroon silver gray are the school colors of the Joplin High School. The eagle, with wings displayed, is symbolic of the heights to which the cadets aspire academically and in their personal goals.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 29 June 1950. It was cancelled due to a new design on 27 January 1987, currently amended to include a manufacturing drawing on 13 June 2014. (TIOH Drawing Number A-10J-41)
