Shoulder Sleeve Insignia
A yellow inverted triangle with a white horizontal scroll attached above, all edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) red border, the overall dimensions are 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height and 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width; on the triangle the red head and neck of a cardinal, garnished black with yellow beak; on the white scroll the inscription LAMAR in red letters 5/16 Inch (.79 cm) in height.
Red and white are the colors of the University. The yellow triangle alludes to the geographic location of the University in the golden triangle area of Texas. The cardinal is the mascot of the University.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was authorized 8 July 1982.
Shoulder Loop Insignia
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield divided vertically into halves, red enamel and silver, on which is centered an open book counterchanged (silver on red and red on silver); on the silver portion the head of a red cardinal in profile, on the red portion a silver sword with blade up within a yellow triangle. Attached below the shield a silver arced scroll inscribed LAMAR UNIVERSITY in red enamel letters.
Red and white (silver) are the colors of the University. The open book alludes to knowledge academically and in military science. The cardinal is the mascot of the University. The sword is indicative of leadership. The yellow triangle representing the local area commonly referred to as the golden triangle, due to abundant petroleum resources and industryalludes to the location of the University.
The shoulder loop insignia was authorized 18 November 1982.
