Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description
On a silver horizontal oval edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) white border, the purple stylized head of a wildcat.  The overall dimensions are 2 13/16 inches (7.14 cm) in height and 3 1/16 inches (7.78 cm) in width.

Symbolism
Purple and white are the school colors.  The wildcat is the schools mascot of Kansas State University.

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 28 December 1981.  It was amended to include cable numbers for a subdued insignia and to change the cable number for purple on 20 May 1988.  A new design was authorized on 12 September 2000, which included manufacturing drawings, updated description and symbolism.  (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-158)

Description
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of shield blazoned:  Per fess Gules and paly of seven Argent and Purpure, in chief between a shock of wheat and a gear wheel, a sun flower all Or.  Below the shield a Purple scroll bearing the inscription KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY in Gold letters.

Background
The shoulder loop insignia was approved 8 February 1961.
