Shoulder Sleeve Insignia
On a shield-shaped embroidered device 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height by 3 inches (7.62 cm) in width blazoned: Argent, a Spartan helmet facing to sinister Vert. All within a diminished bordure of the last. Attached above the shield, a White scroll with the designation MICHIGAN STATE in Green letters arched to chief and edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) Green border.
White and green are the universitys colors. The shield and the Spartan helmet are the chosen symbols of Michigan State University and embody the spirit and pride of the university and its ROTC program.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 5 May 1953. It was cancelled to change the design and update the description and symbolism of the new design on 8 June 2001 currently amended to update the manufactured drawings on 6 August 2014.
Shoulder Loop Insignia
A silver colored metal and enamel shield shaped device, 1 1/8 (2.86 cm) in height overall blazoned as follows: Argent (Silver), a Spartan warrior couped in helm of the first. Attached around the shield, four (4) green scrolls, three at top with the inscription MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY and a scroll at the bottom, between a dot the inscription ARMY ROTC in silver letters.
The shoulder loop insignia was approved 2 April 1959.
