Shoulder Sleeve Insignia

Description
 On a white disc shaped embroidered item, edged with a 1/8 inch (.32cm) maroon border, a maroon keystone, displaying a white horse rearing on its hind legs, maroon details, yellow mane, tail and hooves, with yellow bridle and harness, all within the arched inscription at top "INDIANA UNIVERSTIY" and below "OF PENNSYLVANIA" in maroon. Overall diameter is 3 1/4 inches (8.26cm).

Symbolism
Maroon and white are the colors of the university. The keystone alludes to the State of Pennsylvania known as the Keystone State. The white rearing horse with bridle and harness is taken from the seal of the University. 

Background
The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally authorized 21 April 1971 currently amended to include updated manufacturing drawings on 20 August 2014.  (TIOH Drawing Number A-10S-230)

Description
A silver colored metal and enamel shield shaped device, 1 3/8 (3.49cm) in height overall consisting of a maroon sheaf of wheat displaying a silver Indian mounted on a rearing horse grasping a spear, all within three (3) segmented silver scroll, two (2) at top and one (1) at base, inscribed at the top and to the left "VIRTUE", "LIBERTY" to the right and below "INDEPENDENCE" in black.  

Symbolism
The Indian alludes to the location of the university, Indiana, Pennsylvania, also suggesting the name of the schools athlete team.

The shoulder loop insignia was originally authorized 15 April 1968 currently amended to include updated manufacturing drawings on 20 August 2014.
